“ Had lots of fun here, love that there's room to dance a little! The bartenders work quick, are really nice and make the drinks right in front of you. Great place ”
“ I love this bar, its always friendly and always fun. The drinks are very well made and you get a bang for your buck! Weekends they have good DJs but I wish they played more reggae music. However I love karaoke night! Sundays and Wednesday you get to sing your great heart out and get a little tipsy doing it lol. If you haven't gone here I suggest you do, I know I'll be back this weekend :) ”
“ Okay so here goes... If you like dancing then definitely visit Rail. It has the biggest dance floor on Easton Ave. As a Rutgers student, I was always trying to go out to meet new people and dance!! Don't get me wrong, I do like the small talks that's why I would hang out with my friends in the other bars for the early parts of the night but then I would head to Rail. They always had music blasting and everyone dancing. Not only was I having fun but got my cardio out for the week haha. Pros: 1. Cheap drinks 2. Great selection of music 3. They have the biggest dancefloor out of all the bars on Easton Ave 4. Staff is really friendly 5. People are actually dancing Cons: 1. Okay so there might be some creepy people 2. Gets really crowded 3. Long lines for the restrooms 4. Kinda Divey - (WHO CARES you're a college student!) Tips: 1. Come here on two dollar Tuesdays! 2. Come here after 12:45 am - if you come earlier, it's kinda dead. 3. If you're older than 28, you're a senior citizen. ”
“ Karaoke on Wednesday nights! So much fun... even if you don't get a change to sing at the mic. Everyone can see the lyrics on the TV around the bar so everyone is singing along. Bar isn't too crowded and the bar tenders are nice. ”
“ During my senior year at college, the Golden Rail was about forty feet from my front door. There were plenty of other bars nearby, but we usually ended up going to this one. It's not a great bar by any means, but it was always a fun time. The selection of drinks is pretty good, and it's cheap. They have a standard selection of taps, but also a few notable craft brews. It's hard to say what the draw is. The Golden Rail seems to attract a more diverse and fun crowd than other Easton Ave bars. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the atmosphere is created by the patrons, not the establishment. My roommates and I used to go on Tuesday Nights and destroy everybody in bar trivia, then cash in our bar dollars on the weekend. I don't think we ever paid for drinks that whole year. Karaoke nights were also fun but hazardous to your hearing and dignity. It's a decent place to watch a game too, when it's not too crowded. I sometimes would go there to see Rutgers' away games on their numerous flat screen televisions. Now for the bad news: sometimes it gets way to crowded on the weekends, and the bathrooms leave a lot to be desired. ”
“ I am so excited to be the first person to review the Golden Rail!!! My first experience at the Golden Rail was in the summer of 2006. My SO is from Scotland and a huge fan of soccer (football). We came to the Golden Rail because it was broadcasting all of the World Cup games. We wound up here so many times during the World Cup it was ridiculous. We would literally show up just as the place was opening their doors (which was still relatively early in the day) and would walk in and order some drinks and settle in to watch a couple of matches. A lot of the time we were the only people there, but it was still fun, it was like we had our own bar! Usually as the day wore on folks would start to trickle in and we met some really interesting folks. It was a really fun experience. Now on to the details of this place. I've heard that fairly recently they've undergone some renovations so some of my comments may be way outdated but I'm all nostalgic about the summer of 2006 that I spent at the Golden Rail.... It kinda smells like bleach or some sort of cleaning liquid in the Golden Rail. I attribute that to a thorough cleaning of the restrooms, which is appreciated. The restrooms themselves leave a bit to desired. There's one restroom for the ladies, which leads to a line when it's crowded so it's best to join the line when you feel the urge. They don't serve food here (I think I heard they do now though), but they're cool with you bringing something in from somewhere else. I like the Easton Deli which is next door- they've got some really good sandwiches! I've even witnessed people ordering food for delivery to the Golden Rail. It was awesome! The Golden Rail is a great spot for watching sports. They have a lot of TVs (which I've heard have been upgraded, even though I thought they were already good). I'm really mad at myself for not going here to see any of the Scarlet Knights games last season, but I'll get there for one next season! I haven't been to the Golden Rail many times at night. There were a few rare occasions when the college kids had mostly gone home for the summer and it was a fun time. I just kinda get the impression that it's a place that's probably heaving with college kids at night while school is in session. I'm not against the college kids, but I'm pushing 30 and being around them makes me feel old. As for the drinks on offer- the beer selection is good. They've got a well stocked bar and seem to be able to whip up anything your heart desires. My one complaint though is regarding the shots. During one of my visits for a World Cup game I remember that earlier in the day we ordered a round of celebratory shots (probably for some great play or something- it's fuzzy now) and it was your regular sized shot. On another visit to the Golden Rail at night we ordered shots and they were served in thimble sized plastic cups. A teardrop would have overflowed this thing! I didn't think that was very cool- but I still love the Golden Rail and look forward to checking out the renovations. So, bottomline, the Golden Rail is a cool spot. It probably falls into the category of a dive bar, but it's got character to it. ”
